Brett Abarbanel has been selected to head the International Gaming Institute (IGI) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Abarbanel is succeeding Bo Bernhard, who is transitioning to a new role as UNLV’s vice president of economic advancement. Bernhard will maintain involvement with IGI as a specialized consultant. Abarbanel is familiar with IGI, having held management positions there previously, and she contributes a breadth of knowledge in esports, digital games, and conventional sports betting.
Possessing nearly two decades of expertise in gaming procedures and technology, ethical gaming protocols, public engagement, and gaming chronicle, Abarbanel is prepared to commence immediately. “As the gaming sector continues to progress, I anticipate collaborating with our numerous partners in higher learning, government, non-profit organizations, and throughout the industry to expand upon IGI’s current endeavors to enhance industry instruction, cultivate a talent channel, and broaden the expertise within the field,” she stated.
This announcement follows closely behind another stimulating advancement in gaming education. In January 2022, UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law joined forces with Entain to initiate a program in Gaming Law and Regulation.
The classes are led by educators with practical experience in the gaming sector. Each course requires roughly 20-25 hours for completion.
The inaugural course presented was “A Primer on Gaming Law and Regulation,” instructed by gaming law authority Professor Anthony Cabot.
William Bison, a seasoned expert in the entertainment and casino sector, will deliver a presentation on casino management and legal frameworks. Joining him will be scholars from UNLV’s Global Gaming Institute, who will be dissecting the complexities of Native American Gaming Law.
