The Mississippi sports wagering market encountered a financial setback of $62,230.77 in June, primarily due to substantial losses on basketball wagers at gambling establishments in the northern region of the state.
The Mississippi Gaming Commission’s most recent figures indicate a notable decrease in total earnings for June, dropping to the present level from $1.6 million in June 2019. This also signifies a decline from the $87,697.08 revenue generated in May 2020.
Betting activity also experienced a significant reduction compared to the same period last year, reaching $1.6 million in contrast to $15.2 million last year. However, June’s betting volume witnessed a considerable increase compared to May’s $236,502.91.
Coastal gambling venues in the state continue to dominate betting volume, with $898,425.30 wagered at these locations. License holders retained $27,358.45 of this sum, resulting in a win rate of 3.05%.
Other sports, encompassing traditional American sports excluding football, basketball, and baseball, accounted for $625,457.64 in betting volume, generating $119,335.49 in revenue. However, the majority of this sum was absorbed by substantial losses on football and basketball.
In football, participants wagered only $1,388.40, but sportsbooks incurred a loss of $90,177.
A wager on a basketball game, totaling $33,720.80, resulted in a loss of $44,807.16, despite the overall stake being just $75.
